Aleksandr Smokvin
Aleksandr Smokvin Aleksandr is originally from Ukraine and was a member of the Ukrainian figure skating national team from 1995-2001. Aleksandr has extensive coaching education and is eager to stay updated with the latest developments in figure skating. He holds a specialist degree in Olympic and Professional sports from the National University of Physical Training and Sports in Kiev, Ukraine, as well as further training through ISU World Development seminars and projects in Poland and Finland. Aleksandr has worked as a professional figure skating coach for nearly 20 years and has been the head coach of Luleå Figure Skating Club since August 2021. Before that, he was a coach in Tampere, Finland, and before that, he worked as the head coach in Oslo, Norway for twelve years. Aleksandr has trained skaters at the highest international level. His skaters have represented Norway in the Youth Olympic Games, European Youth Olympic Festival, Junior World Championship, ISU Challenger Series, and ISU Junior Grand Prix, and Finland in the Nordic Championships. Now he is the coach for Luleå's skaters in the Swedish figure skating national team. Aleksandr has also worked as a coach at many international camps, including in Germany and the USA. As a coach, he is appreciated for being committed and active. Aleksandr is very skilled at teaching technical elements on the ice, both for the individual skater's optimal development and to ultimately prevent injuries.
More coaches are expected to join and will be announced here as they become available.
The training takes place Monday to Friday during daytime, between 08:00 and 18:00 both weeks V29 and V30.
Training options are:
Three ice sessions of 50 minutes per day (total of 15 ice sessions/week) + one off-ice/ dance session per day (total of five off-ice sessions/week) or
Two ice sessions of 50 minutes per day (total of 10 ice sessions/week) + one off-ice/ dance session per day (total of five off-ice sessions/week)
The training is adapted both at the group level and individually, with the goal that all skaters receive the best possible training based on their own abilities. The ice sessions cover everything from more basic skating skills to various technical elements at an advanced level. The off-ice sessions are intended to include components of endurance, strength, coordination, agility, and sport-specific training. Skaters are therefore divided into groups based on skill level. The group division may be adjusted by the coaches before or during the camp based on the skaters' levels and/or the number of skaters in each group.
After the registration period has ended, a preliminary schedule for groups and training times will be presented.
Participating skaters are expected to be able to tie their skates, keep track of training times, and otherwise take responsibility for themselves. If a skater is unable to do so, a guardian or another adult must be available between training sessions. The camp is responsible for the training on the ice and off-ice.
The camp will be held in Sunderbyn, about 17 km outside Luleå city center. Ice sessions are held in Sunderby ice rink, and off-ice/dance sessions take place in the nearby sports hall or outdoors if the weather permits. Between training sessions, there is access to a lounge area with tables, chairs, and sofas inside the ice rink. There is also a nearby swimming area and opportunities for other outdoor activities.
Additional ice time will be available for booking private training (alone or with a few skaters together), e.g., for choreography/programs, specific test training, or anything else you wish to practice extra. This training is paid for by the skater and is in addition to the fee stated below. Contact the coach for pricing. Please indicate in the registration if you wish to book extra ice.
Lunch boxes can be delivered and offered at cost price. Please indicate in the registration if there is interest in this.
There is access to a smaller lounge area with tables, chairs, and sofas in the ice rink. There will be a microwave and a kettle available.
